Preparatory work before setting up a shopping advertising campaign

Google Ads, Google Analytics, and Google Merchant Center accounts have been created, and the site has been added to Google Search Console. Advertising campaigns will be set up in the Google Ads account, Google Analytics, which is needed to set up and improve advertising efficiency, a list of advertised products (feed) will be uploaded to Google Merchant Center, and rights to the site will be confirmed using Google Search Console.

First of all, we analyzed the site for compliance with Google's requirements for advertising in Merchant Center and made a list of points that needed to be improved to make the advertising launch as effective as possible. We activated the feed in the site's admin and started uploading to this site.

For each product on the platform that we need to add to the feed, we need to specify Google Feed for Merchant Center in the properties. This can be done manually, if time and the number of products allow, or through bulk import.

After that, we compared the category catalog with the categories for Google classification. Using the "To category" button, we generated a fivalid, receiving an XML file that was immediately added to Merchant Center and sent for moderation.

What we got as a result:

We decided to test any product. They can work better than search ads because the ad already has a picture and price. Such an ad is a filter for customers who are not ready to buy. Google Shopping campaigns have higher conversion rates at a lower price compared to search. The list of categories with which we started working was also segmented.

In the first month after implementing this strategy, we obtained the following results:
  • Advertising platform – Google Shopping
  • Statistics period – 07.07.2022 – 07.09.2022
  • Total number of clicks – 15,732
  • Total number of impressions — 1,300,932
  • The average cost of one click is 1.15 UAH.
  • Total expenses – UAH 18,086.42.
  • Total number of conversions – 4,036
  • Average conversion rate – 25.65%
  • E-commerce - 1,085
  • Income from Google Analytics - UAH 1,480,861.00.

Every year, Google pays more and more attention to automation - shopping campaigns are one of the brightest examples of this. You should not be afraid of them, even if machine learning is not always infallible, but if you approach it correctly and systematically, the result will definitely please you, even from the first months of work you will get very good results.
